Kras

A part of Slovenia is a Karst region, and it was this region that gave its name to karstic landscapes and phenomena across the world, since it was here that scientists first explained the numerous Karst features. Speleologists discover new caves in Slovenia every year, which by now have amounted to more than 8,000. Yet only about 20 of them can be visited. The largest and mostly viewed is the Postojna Cave, the home of the human fish (Proteus anguinus). The Škocjan caves, a natural and cultural site inscribed on the UNESCO world heritage list, continue to impress visitors with their unique beauty.
